Galaxy Astra Is Here!
Believe it or not, this project started in 1985! Back then it was a cross between I Robot and Lord of the Rings, the saga of a post-apocalyptic Earth, populated by Artificial Intelligences and primitive humans, reduced to the state of cattle. It was called… The Matrix! You can imagine my disappointment, sitting in a movie theater in 1999… but hey, ya snooze, ya lose! Not that it mattered much: by then, the project had mutated into something far bigger, and crazier, a sort of Thomas Pynchon love-letter to the trippy, groovy sci-fi of the 1970’s. Well, time stands still for no man, and soon enough, the likes of Babylon 5, Deep Space 9, the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Dune miniseries, Farscape, Andromeda and even a frakkin’ Battlestar Galactica reboot were biting into my potential audience. SF authors seemed to have rediscovered the space-opera, as well, and soon the bookshelves were groaning under the weight of the stuff.
There’s been a lot of water under the bridge since then. And frankly… it’s all gotten kinda stale… Mannered… Rehearsed… Politically corrected.
That’s where Galaxy Astra comes in.
Astra is none of those things. Astra is my childhood, adolescence and young adulthood: freeze-dried and thawed out in the dystopian wilderness of the 21st century. Astra is no-holds-barred, two-fisted, mind exploding insanity crossed with a killer instinct for the iconic, the archetypal, the “viral”. It’s one of a kind, despite its many parents in movies, television, novels and comics.
And here it is, at long last. Lovingly crafted to look like it was mailed directly from 1975 to the present year. Check it out. I think you’re gonna love it…
